Good morning everyone!
Happy July!
Do you have plans? If they include fireworks, please, please be careful.
I've written a few books that included research for fireworks, and it's so very scary to see how many people (especially children) who are badly hurt each year by 4 th of July celebrations.
So... with that out of my system, on to better things. :)
Most of my "must do" list is finally complete. I've turned in the manuscript for my Berkley single title, Causing Havoc. (And now I'm biting my nails, hoping the editor likes it!)
The June Reader/Author Get Together is over for another year.
Dianne Castell and I are already hard at work on organizing new suggestions and thinking of ways to improve for next year.
I've read the two manuscript proofs that had been sitting on my desk for some time. That's my least favorite part of writing. I really get tired of re-reading my own books, checking for typos and typeset errors. But I'm done!
Now I can relax and play around with some new and different ideas for stories! Pondering the next single title, drumming up ideas for a novella... My brain is whirring.
Upcoming books...
I got a cover for my Berkley single title, Causing Havoc, but I'm not sharing that just yet. It may or may not be the final version. But as soon as I know, I promise to share it on my message board until I can get it on my site. All I'll say is that I LOVE it. It's very different from what I've had previously. I hope you'll all like it.
Rather than yakking about a book that won't be out until Feb 07... What about Murphy's Law?
Well, it should be up on my website, front and center! Under books, look for the "Murphy's Law Page."
You can see some advance reviews and I plan to add new fun things as I go along. Keep checking back for more in the way of excerpts, reader feedback (about 20 readers got advance copies) and reviews.
Stacy Algren, a wonderful reader friend who got an advance copy of Murphy's Law, wrote about the story in her blog. www.trelainastarblazer.blogspot.com
Stacy is so enthusiastic and complimentary that I blushed while reading it.
The Reader/Author June Get Together...
What a success! We had 150 readers and 45 authors. We had a blast doing everything from book exchanges and a bookfair, to a rodeo night and line dancing.
Check out my photo page to see key shots of the event.
One especially fun thing that happened at the event was that author LuAnn McLane brought James Denton's "traveling pants." Yeah, I'd never heard of that, but sure enough, she has his pants encased in a frame with a small open patch in the back so you can "feel" them. Too funny!
The radio station that loaned LuAnn the pants put up some photos of our authors and the britches. ;-)
Check it out at:

During the Get Together, we had basket and critique raffles, and a marvelous bookfair.
From those things, we made $2500 for the Battered Women's Shelter.
Dianne Castell, Linda Keller and I will make a trip to present the Shelter with the check.
We also made $425 for the "Eyes for Josh" project, and I sent two boxes of autographed books donated by our many authors for an Ebay raffle to add to those proceeds.
For the troops, we gathered around $200 in cash, and a lot of donated goods.
Many, many thanks to all the generous people who donated!
Blogging...
Remember to check out www.runningwithquills.com daily to hear from me, Jayne Ann Krentz, Stella Cameron, Elizabeth Lowell and Suzanne Simmons. Soon, Susan Andersen will be added to that mix.
My latest blog is on Alpha heroes - why I love them, what they are, and what they aren't! I hope you enjoy.
Message board...
I've added a new fun poll to the message board. If you get a chance, go and vote! I'd love to have your opinion and/or input. http://www.lorifoster.com/forum/index.php
Cosmopolitan...
I'm told there was a nice mention of "Bad Boys of Summer" in the July issue of Cosmopolitan magazine, page 116. I haven't seen it yet, but I figured I'd share anyway. A lovely person (Agent Roberta Brown) is mailing me a copy of the magazine, since there isn't one in my area yet.
Café Press...
I'll continue to sell items on CafePress, so if you're looking for something unique for writers or readers, be sure to check it out at www.cafepress.com/lorifoster
Something new!!!
For the June Get Together, my husband wore a shirt that read, "I Sleep With A Famous Author." It was such a hit that it inspired a new a section for husbands, and/or "significant others." Go to the cafepress store, click on "Husbands" and you'll see a variety of unique, fun items!
* Please note that we're still organizing that section, adding things, and putting up descriptions.
As usual, I have bookmarks and book covers free to anyone who sends me a Self Addressed Stamped Envelope. A regular sized business envelope is fine for bookmarks, but if you want a book cover, I'll need an envelope at least 7" x 9".
Available book covers are: "A Very Merry Christmas," the mass market version of "The Night Before Christmas," and "Murphy's Law," which is a stepback.
Shortly, I'll have "Murphy's Law" bookmarks.
You can send your SASE to me at:
Lori Foster
P.O. Box 854
Ross OH 45061
-- Please remember, I do my best to answer all the mail that I receive, but I can answer a lot quicker if you always include a SASE. Thanks!
That's it from me. I hope your July is bright with fireworks, but also very safe.
Hugs!
